have a puppy (read all 10 entries…)
pick out my own small breed...

the first puppy I had was brought to me… I hadn’t a clue how to train her. I fell desperately in love, but as it was really a temporary situation, I had to find her a new home when I went back to school.

Never had pets as a child, and as an adult, every pet was chosen by someone else, or was already at home before I entered the picture.

I’ve always wanted a very small dog… trying to decide on what breed or mix.

Mixes

Mixes are much healthier because they’re less inbred.

Good luck finding a dog! They’re wonderful friends!

amen

I’d rather have a mix… the concept seems much healthier to me, but I also want to know something about it’s potential characteristics and health issues, before committing.

I would also rather rescue a puppy than pay for one, so I don’t want to limit my choice to only mixes, either.

I am lucky to live with a large lab, patrick, so as I make a choice, I’d like to find a small dog that can still hold it’s own. patrick is mild tempered, but at 75 lbs, he’s substantial.

Wow.

So you’re looking for a REALLY small dog!

75 pounds is just a puppy in my dog world!! My last two dogs were twice that weight (though the one was a bit fat)! I’m more comfortable with the ‘gentle giants’.

Rescuing is awesome, but do it when they’re young or you’ll see behavior problems. I hope you and just the right dog find one another soon!
