After being laid off and then almost starving and freezing to death in December ‘07, I moved back to Denver in order to find work. It’s been a tough haul but I’m now taking freelance jobs and getting myself set. My goal now is to eventually make it back home (my country home in rural Missouri) and continue working! Sometimes taking the plunge is the hardest, but the only way to reach our goals. Do I miss “home”? YES I especially miss the fresh, clean air, my chickens, and my friends. But, I’m learning a lot living in the city – and I’m especially enjoying how easy it is to find work!

Dream Job September '08
so I did it – I hung in there finding temp work, day labor (dog walking, house cleaning, professional organizing…) – I felt VERY poor, gave away my car and relied on public transportation and learned how to take advantage of living in the city. In September ‘08 I was hired to do my dream job, which is be the executive assistant to a busy CEO based here in Denver. The coolest thing about my work is it’s 98% VIRTUAL meaning I can do it ANYWHERE. I rely heavily on my iPhone and laptop build the type of systems we need to support virtual teams – and strong IT background to—and I enjoy the pay! I work very hard – the wait and the “almost starving” was well worth it! I know i could have gotten a 9-to-5 on location position somewhere, easily – but I avoided the commitment long enough to realize that exactly what I wanted really IS out there!
