I have already been playing the viola for 4 years in our school orchestra. I practice and practice and never seem to get any better. I still play at a fifth grade level (I am in 7th), and am frequently outshined by other players in the orchestra. My teacher is frustrated with me for ‘not using my potential talent’, but I’m trying, I really am. Oh, well, I’ll hang in there.

Good On You!
Do you enjoy the music you are playing? Do you freestyle it up?
When I used to play the piano (A looooong time ago, so I’m no expert if I am honest), I used to find that breaking it up a little and playing something I enjoyed helped me get through practising things I didn’t really connect with.
For example stick a minuet in front of me and I’ll sigh but give it a go. Stick something a bit jazzy or rock and roll and away I go!
Maybe you could talk to your teacher about trying some different styles?
I’m not really an expert though so I wouldn’t quote me, but good luck,
Sam x
