somewhere you feel free  — 3 months ago

“You know, when you graduate from college, you’re supposed to find a paying job.”

Now, I’m not quite sure how you meant for this to come across, but hearing it, I felt quite…inferior.

I’ll be volunteering for ten months in New Hampshire following graduation and I’m quite at peace and content with it.

I don’t need a job right now. GAHHHHH. There will be decades for that later. I’ll be working full-time- it’s not like I’ll even be slacking. Gah.

Whatever.

Chenoa is in grad school!!

I know how you must feel

I graduated last spring and returned to my home country. The next 8 months were spent re-adjusting, taking care of my mum as she recuperated from keyhole surgery, applying to one graduate school, preparing for my cousins’ weddings and hosting a college friend visiting the country for the first time.

In the midst of all this, I received many jabs and queries about finding a paying job. Now the course I want to take for grad school has been pushed to June, so I’m interning with my school till then. I get paid (even if peanuts), so I consider myself lucky.

Don’t worry about what the others think. The next time someone says that, talk about the group you’re helping through your volunteership – that usually instills a li’l guilt in the other person for not being as generous with his/her time.

thanks

for your words.

i’m glad you’re doing what you need to do as well :)
