I’ll tell you from personal experience. Yes, to people like you that have never had an addiction, drug look like a meer simple activity of coping or pleasure. Those are both true, but dear, drug usage to an exreme extent is a DISEASE. If you don’t believe me, go check out one of your loacal meetings (aa, na, ca, so on). People like me are a rarity, I am a recovering addict. And my answer to your question is… I AM AN ADDICT AND IT’S A DISEASE. Addicts may seem like pathetic people to you. But just because someone uses it doesn’t make them a bad person. Yes, in the process they do hurt others, but you must understand, once again, it is a disease and most of us will never get clean. It is a life changing dicision to quit.
It sounds as though you have a loved one addicted. Is this true? If so, there are ways you can help. there are even meetings for people who have loved ones who use called ALANON. Please don’t be offended, but I felt you needed to understand a little better.
