take a road trip by myself
i used to

do this before - i think before i became fearful. i do adore traveling, i used to go on train rides by myself, i used to go on planes by myself – i used to actually travel up and down the east coast - now? i rarely travel and i have a tendancy to backtrack.

i need to remember how it was to be young and carefree…except now i have credit cards.

Comments:

I’m so co-dependant, I don’t think I could travel anywhere alone…so anyone who can do this has my respect. I practically panic going to Wal Mart alone. There’s probably something wrong with me…haha, but an entire trip alone? I don’t think i could do it.

I used to be nervous about travelling by myself as well. And then I started taking little road trips just to get away from things. Really little: 30 minutes, give or take. And I did a lot of travelling with just one or two people: from college, to college, to cities that were an hour or two away. I eventually got the courage to go on longer trips by myself. It’s an amazing experience. Before I moved back to the East Coast and had my kids, I drove from Texas to Wyoming. Alone. I was gone for something like two weeks. Words cannot describe how wonderful that trip was.

But I always do some pre-planning and have some basics in my car with me. I always have a road atlas in my car and look at my planned route before leaving home. If it’s a long trip, I get my oil changed and check my tires. I carry snacks (sometimes a whole meal) and water, even when I’m running errands. It’s good to have a gas can, a spare tire, a cell phone, some blankets, and extra clothes. And so on. Even if I don’t use everything, I feel better knowing I’m prepared.

Anyway, travelling alone is so worth it.
