We finally bit the bullet, and moved to Zurich in January, 2008. Gave up a great job in San Francisco to roll the dice there, and hope I can find work to support us (wife and 13 month old daughter). My Swiss wife accepted a job offer that pays about half what I am making here, but that combined with our savings should keep us going for about a year, so we can a least give it a shot. Big step, but we are exhilarated by the potential.
Comments:
Zurich is one of the most expensive places in Switzerland…maybe you could try to move to a cheaper place ? Of course there might be less work opportunity, but you could look for a job before to move to the other area.
Which type of work are you both looking for ?
we are actually outside of Zurich, in Winterthur, which makes the rent quite a bit better. I also just accepted a half year contract position that pays pretty well, so it looks like things will work out fine. That is usually the case, just need to wait for things to even out after introducing a bit of chaos into the routine. Thanks for the tips!
You are very welcome Jeremy
Glad to know you got a job that pays not too bad.
How do you find life over there appart work ? I hope you and your wife enjoy to live there and have nice activities in your free time. There is lots to do if you like the outdoors; and there is plenty of cultural events in Zurich.
If you need any other info, just ask…I will help if I can.
