Learn Irish Gaelic
Dia Duit! 7 months ago

Slainte! (Greetings and good health to you)

I’m from Dublin, the capital of Ireland, and I speak Irish. My first language is English, which is a far more useful language, but I also speak Irish. Irish is important for students taking part in state examinations (as it’s tested as a subject) and is also in our education system. It’s also important if you are in the Government or a member of the Gardai (Police Force).

I am not fluent in Irish by any means, and I am still trying to get my head around it all, but it’s an unusual language!

Go raibh maith agat! (Thanks very much)

Slan go foill, (Bye for Now)

Daithi (David)

PS. There are no accents on these characters, as the 43Things system cannot accept them.

Are you sure?

Are you sure it is 43things who does not accept accents? I write them many times here, and they seem to be ok. Probably it is not 43things, but your browser settings. The image shows how my entry (with accents) looks for a part of this page: the title of my entry, “leibhéal a trí”, has two accents that should be ok also in this comment.
