compose a symphony (read all 8 entries…)
Little bits of progress 20 months ago

I went through yesterday and did some cleanup in the move of my first movement from Garageband to Logic. In the version of GB I was using at the time, I had no tempo automation, so I just played rubato to get a ritardando when I wanted one.

Now that I have tempo automation, I needed to go through and fix all those events to be correct at tempo, so I can go through next and use tempo automation for my ritard.

Software for Composing

Chris,

I was wondering if you’ve ever tried using Sibelius to compose any of your work. I’m just now looking into which software is best, but it’s a tough choice. Congrats.

Haven't used Sibelius

I haven’t used Sibelius, though I know someone else who is. She’s not composing, though. She’s a piano teacher and chorale member who uses Sibelius primarily to generate sheet music of stuff she plays into her MIDI keyboard.

I think it comes down to how you compose, and what your budget is like. I’m not the greatest at reading/writing music, so I tend to work with the keyboard directly to make the notes. I’ll produce the score after the fact, if I ever even really need to. Unless I ever get some real live musicians who want to play my stuff, I don’t really need to generate a score.

How do you work, or plan to?
