be direct without offending people (read all 2 entries…)
Seeking balance 19 months ago

I struggle here. When I act like myself, I am too direct. When I try to cushion my words, I am not direct enough and people misunderstand me. I need to find balance.

Difficult, but worth it ...

This is about finding true authenticity in yourself to offer to others.

It’s not easy. We’re taught that we shouldn’t say things that offend others.

But we’re also taught that we should be sincere.

Some clumbsy folks blurt out what they OBSERVE as the truth and when it offends someone, they think, “Oh, that person can’t handle the truth.” and they use the excuse, “Just being honest.”

I really admore this goal. Good luck with it.

I’d like to help you if you want to post problematic situations here for us to comment on.

I am ...

Direct with people. I make sure that my message gets across. but then I go and appologise (spelling is also on my 43 things).

Good luck with your goal x

Direct yet constructive

This is one of the most delicate balances to find when dealing with difficult people – especially when they would sorely benefit from a dose of constructive advice. The key is not to be caustic or condescending (which, admittedly, is easier said than done). It is easier to couch difficult words in a blanket of compassion if you can focus on an particularly good quality of the individual in dire need of hearing what you have to say. This will ebb the recipient’s natural defensive posture, as well as prepare you in delivering a strong message with civility.

Maryanne I've got soul, but im not a soldier

i’m like that too but sometimes you know you just cant control it..people take things in different ways and if you end up offending them just apologize and tell them you meant well and just hope for the best.

that might not help but it happens..you know? :p
