On the left side is 07 garden and then the right is a pic of todays planters. All these plants are from seeds so it’s a mystery how they will turn out.

Hey!

Last year,I purchased Bonnie plants and though they look huge and healthy, they did not yield much. This year I just got packs of seeds and started the plants inside for 2 weeks and then put them out this morning. Was cheaper too…

So, seeds are better.

Very Inspiring

Mrs. viii has been talking about starting a garden this year. We both have brown thumbs when it comes to plants.

I’d like to do it, but I don’t want to get way in over my head.

Those look great!

and familiar!!! I did tomatoes in similar sized pots last year, grew to be almost 7 ft high and I was picking a bucket of cherry tomatoes (sweet 100s) nightly from just 4 plants. I used a red plastic tray that wrapped around the base of the plant stems, and apparently they liked the heat and the moisture it conserved.

I hope you post more pics as your growings get bigger!

I have a container question for you

Thanks for sharing this great goal!

I recently acquired 4 tomato plants, and I had planned to put them in containers vs. in the ground. That way, I can move them to different areas of the yard if needed.

Currently, the plants are babies, only a few inches high, in a styrofoam cup with a small stake. I have been saving plastic food-grade buckets for gardening. I get them from local bakeries to ensure that they have only contained things like icing or other sugary food products (nothing acidic).

My question is, I have a variety of bucket sizes (3 gallons up to 6 gallons) and I don’t know what to use for these plants.

Also, what sort of soil should I use to fill the bucket—potting soil, top soil, a blend?

I was thinking a 50-50 blend of potting and top soil, in a 3-gallon bucket for each plant. Then, I was also thinking to poke holes in the bucket bottoms to ensure drainage, but I am not sure if this step is necessary?

I appreciate any and all advice you can offer. Thanks!
