Since I speak a slavic language (slovene), I think learning cyrillic->latin transliteration could be useful in some cases.
I have an alphabet taped to my screen, and with some effort+time I can read the russian spam mail I get. And even understand, at least a part of the message.

My goal is to read it somewhat fluently.
