Learn to use more of the manual settings on my camera (read all 2 entries…)
Aperture Control

I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time now – go through my camera manual and learn how to use all the manual settings. I knew how to do this with my old camera, but I hadn’t bothered yet since getting the SLR (which has way more manual settings available than my previous compact digital). So . . . I figure it’s time to make this a goal. Should be pretty easy to do, since I’m also doing Project 365 right now. I’m taking photos every day. I figure if I pull out the camera manual once a week, or so, I’ll be through it in no time at all.

Here’s my first “lesson” – manual aperture control. Let me have only the queen in focus, with the pieces in front and behind her slightly blurry.

Lewis Chessmen

Yes! Well spotted – those are pieces from a replica Lewis chess set. It’s my son’s chess set, actually; we saw a few of the original Lewis pieces in a museum, and he liked them so much I bought him that reproduction. They’ve got such great facial expressions. I’ll probably use them for more photography projects in the future.

:)
