have a garden (read all 6 entries…)

seed  — 2 months ago

I bought some herb seeds today. I plan on planting them tomorrow. I figure I can fit them on my balcony in a pot when they start growing. Is there anything better than fresh basil on your pasta, or chives on a potato? Also got some oregano & rosemary. Yumm. I only hope my balcony isn’t too sunny. Sounds odd, but for me it seems herbs are easy to burn.

Basil loves sunshine!

Basil actually thrives here in the desert! It’s difficult to overwater where we are, but before I transplant them out, I tend to overwater them and then they get brown tips. Oregano likes a little afternoon shade here, but might do OK in mostly full sun where you are. Garlic can be grown in pots, but it’s best to start them in the fall… Good luck and enjoy your herbs – a few pots of herbs on a balcony and a tomato plant in a home depot bucket held me over for a few years until I was able to get a place with dirt. It isn’t much, but the taste of fresh herbs & toms helped me stay focused on getting a place with LAND. Good luck on your house-hunting!

Thank you so much for you encouragement! I really think it’s just what I need.
