Alright, I have $50,000 in student loans. I have been paying on them for 3 years now and they never seem to go anywhere. I usually pay about $30 over what they ask at all times because that’s all I can afford. I know this obviously isn’t going to make them go away anytime soon, but does anyone know of a better way? I would like to be able to pay it off in 5 years tops. Thank you!
Comments:
Better way? Not really.
5 years is 60 payments of about $1000 a month.
Random thoughts:
Assuming you’re in the U.S. Make sure you take advantage of the tuition interest deduction on your taxes. $2500/year is deductible (and you don’t even need to itemize).
Join something like UPromise. You can use the rebate amounts for your student loans. (Of course, you could also technically use the cash for something other than education.)
Yes, I know, I just thought that there would be someone out there with a magical answer I suppose. ;) I do deduct the payments on my taxes but I will have to try out the UPromise thing. Thank you!
