Finish my PhD (read all 2 entries…)

Worth doing!

Time to breathe...  — 2 months ago

Well, this is a bit late now, but I finished my degree in December. It sucked, it was a lot of work, and it made me want to bash my head against more than one wall, but overall, it was a good experience. It’s easy to say that now, of course, from this end of things; at the time, it seemed impossible that I would ever get every form turned in on time, every signature in place. After all, everyone knows it’s not the writing or the coursework that kills you, it’s the forms and procedures required by the department and the school that makes you want to commit murder.

Course work?

What kind of PhD were you doing that needs exams and course work?

It was an English Literature degree. There were a bunch of required courses, both in and out of my major (I probably took as many history classes as I did English ones), and a massive week-long exam, and then a dissertation. =]

OK

In my field its all lab (experiments) + dissertation. In many ways I would LOVE to have exams as it would allow me to know if something was not quite correct about my work. This way, my way, there is only one chance… when you submit your thesis.

Cheers,
me
