Get the water out of my basement (read all 3 entries…)
I wanted to call this goal "CRY" 19 months ago

Gabe came over this morning and wanted to make a craft (an angel out of a mini flower pot). When we went downstairs to get what we needed, there was water all over the floor. My sump pump seems to have quit. Plus, it hasn’t rained for a week, so I’m not sure if the water has been sitting there since then, or if there is another source for all that water.

I haven’t looked at the sump pump yet, when I started to go over to check it out, the water was 2-3 inches deep, so I decided I would need my boots. Plus Gabe walking around in the water providing commentary was a bit more than I could handle. Even when I got him out of the water he still wouldn’t shut up (Gabe’s mouth runs 24/7). I decided I should leave it alone until he was gone or else we’d both end up crying – me from the stress and him from being yelled at.

Gabe just went home, so I should go down and look at it now, but I’m really, really, tired. So I think I’ll go have a good cry take a nap instead. Then I’ll call my dad and see what I can find out about sump pumps. I don’t know if they have a reset switch or something that maybe (if I’m really lucky) might just need to be flipped.

Have a good cry AND a nap

and I know you’ll be ready to face anything! I hope you and dad can get this fixed quickly. {{Flirt}}

Thanks, Ti

I took your advice and did both and feel lots a little better. The good news is that the sump pump is running (temporarily).

A sympathetic cheer

Dads always know what to do. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for no major repairs!

Thanks, Vex

I’m very thankful that it looks like it won’t be too bad (and would even be better if my electrician dad didn’t live 1000 miles away).

Now there's an idea!

I’ll make sure to invite you to my first pool party. :-D

maybe you should have a joint with your nap.

(((hugs)))

HA!

I think that’s the first time anyone has offered me pot that I actually laughed. Thanks for the offer, but I had some chocolate instead. :-)

Niel is coming to Florida in February. Who wants to be visited?

Hope hugs help

Fingers crossed this gets sorted out

as soon and as painlessly as possible for you Flirt. I hatehatehate leaks

Thanks, Ira

I’m pretty sure there’s not a leak. Since it’s not supposed to rain for several days, I should know for sure very soon (now that I’ve got my pump temporarily running).

I *knew*

I should’ve looked up what a sump pump was :D I saw your most recent entry on this Flirt, and am so relieved for you – should something that important have some form of backup power? (if possible?)

It's possible, but not very common.

From what I’ve read, you can get a backup pump that runs solely on battery power (in case of a major power outage). Since I don’t normally get a lot of water in my basement, I’m not going to worry about it (for now) and just keep my fingers crossed instead. (Plus pay more attention to what’s going on in my basement when I’m not going down there.)

My sump pump is old, so at some point I need to think about getting a new one. I just don’t want to do it now.

water in the basement

Sigh. How I empathize from my single-mom days in a rented house. My bedroom was in the basement, too.

Here’s hoping you find a quick solution!

UGH!

That would NOT be fun. I’m very thankful that I don’t have to live in my basement, and also that I’m not a single mother.

The problem seems to be temporarily fixed, with a permanent solution not seeming too horrible. Thanks, Ruth!

Oh, Flirt

That is a bummer. I knew I should have gotten a magic wand from mahinui. Here’s a hug to keep you dry ((((Flirt)))).

Thank you, MamaKitty

After a very long nap, I waved my own magic wand a little, and things are looking much better (and drier).

YUCK!

That sounds awful, Rosie!

I normally don’t get very much water in my basement, and I have a dehumidifier (actually two) down there, which does a great job of keeping the humidity down – normally.

I think

you need a packet of pineapple lumps sent your way pronto!

Mmmmm....

CHOCOLATE!!!

weirdly

after reading this I had a dream about you and your basement! It was so weird, your house was on a hill and I couldn’t work out how there could be water in the basement but it turned out to be the basement of a separate garage that was flooded!
How bizarre! I’m glad to say it all dried out in the end though!

How bizarre!

I have no hill, no garage, and now, NO water!

Moose Everything is progress!

it was really

quite strange, and I’d forgotten until just now!!! I am glad to hear that you have no water at least, and hey not having a garage is one less thing to get flooded! It would be nice to have a hill though.

and at least you know you’re in my dreams!!

I think I'd rather have a garage than a hill

winters are pretty harsh around here (remember the ice storm) and I HATE scraping ice and snow off of my car.

Thanks, Moose, for dreaming of me, it makes me feel very special.
