Sing in front of a crowd
Hiding in the background 7 months ago

I’ve been involved with community theater for years. But usually for the musicals I’m either helping backstage or I’m in the chorus. The only time I’ve sang on my own was for the audition and it went horribly. I was so nervous and sang silent night…not a good song to start out with :)

It’s not that I want to be famous or anything but I would like to be able to sing with confidence..even if it’s just karaoke with friends. Maybe one day I will be center stage solo :) We’ll see.

Don't take as long as me....

If you really enjoy singing – go ahead and take centre stage. I have enjoyed karaoke, even going to karaoke events on my own, I’ve sung a lot in choirs. I’ve done a few solos in church. Finally – at 46 – I want to start a solo career. I’m making inroads – but it’s slow as I take it one step at a time and start to take more chances.

One of these days...

I will get over my fear of a microphone. I’m just not so sure about my voice yet. Other than that one audition I’ve never sang in front of anybody. Guess I’m still worried that I am going to sound horrible :)

Good luck with your singing…I’m glad that one of us has stepped out into the spotlight :)

If you think you will then you will

That goes for both sounding good and sounding bad. So the idea is – to think you really do sound great. I mean…. you have to be realistic too. But if you start off with the right attitude, that will go a long way to producing a confident sound. It’s all a case of knowing you can sing; and then that people will like the way you sing; and then creating the opportunities to get up and sing in public and get some positive feedback from your listeners. Don’t be disheartened by anyone who doesn’t like your style – they are just not the kind of people you want to sing to anyway.

The microphone is only an instrument – not nearly as important as the instrument of your own voice.

Be Brave
