I’m sorry…..I rarely get on a soapbox, however this topic requires one.
Over the centuries (and unfortunatley even now in the year 2008)a lot of WICKED people have done a lot of WICKED things all in the name of Christianity and I fully understand the hatred because of it. However I think it’s high time it comes to an end.
Can I change the past? No. Can I undo all of the horrific and horrible things that have been done? No. Can I change the course of the world in it’s current state? Probably not…..but I CAN change my corner of it. I CAN live my faith purely and truly to the best of my ability without becoming some rigid judgemental religious Stepford wife and try and undo some of the damage that has been done to those I come in contact with.
I am tired of seeing people I love and hold close to my heart rejected and bitter because of religious idiots who follow the false lead of someone who obviously hasn’t even read the Bible because if they did they would know that what they are teaching is WRONG.
Does this mean I agree with everything going on in this world? No. Does it mean I am compromising what I believe in? No. Does it mean I’m a luke-warm Christian? Not even remotely.
However it DOES mean that I refuse to be lumped in with a bunch of ignorant Biblical biggots who have no idea who God REALLY is or what the Bible TRULY teaches. Jesus always reprimanded the religious people in the Bible while He publicly and un-repentantly loved and excepted all the people that the “holy” ones rejected. THAT is my standard of faith, THAT is what I strive for. Don’t sit there and try to tell me the Bible approves of or even gives instructions to reject people. The ONLY one who has authority to pass judgement is God and since I can’t take a pile of dust and create a human from it…I’m not God.
When I die I want people to say “I KNOW God must be real because of the way she loved me.” That’s the legacy I crave…not just of being “another one of THOSE Christians”
