Monday! Time for a new workout! 19 months ago

And that would be: BOLLYWOOD WORKOUT!

Workout to some of the hottest Bollywood moves this side of Bombay. Each half hour workout is lead by professional dancer Rohan D’Silva. Rohan has studied with India’s number one choreographer Shiamak Davar whose award winning work can be seen in many Bollywood films. Rohan has also been featured in Bollywood films and elaborate stage productions and is the primary instructor and choreographer at Shiamak’s Indo Jazz Dancer Movement. Get ready to burn up the floor in Bollywood Workout.

I had a lot of fun doing this today. I’ve also taken to jogging in place when I’m watching TV (not all the time, but if I can’t get outside or don’t want to descend into potato-girl-land).

Food wise, I’m still going strong with The Daily Plate. Our grocery choices are getting better all the time and I actually managed to lower my calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium, and carbs this week. Keeping track like this is really inspiring me to eat healthier and get more exercise. There are specific times I can think of where I didn’t eat a handful of cookies or I picked Isak up and danced around for 20 minutes simply because I’m logging it all. (And dancing around with 30 pounds burns about 600 calories an hour, if anyone’s interested.) Booya!

Bolllywood Workout

One evening, as I was riding my bike in a residential neighborhood, I rolled past someone’s open and lit garage. Instead of it being filled with cars and gardening tools, it was set up like a dance studio. Inside was a couple dozen women of south Asian origin, doing aerobics to some sort of Indian pop music. Everyone looked like they were having loads of fun.

garages

Late last summer I remember walking down the alley here and seeing the neighbour’s garage door up, and it was set up with a nice table and pictures and had a bunch of old Italian guys sitting around playing cards & smoking while a woman poured wine. It was really surreal. I tried to go back for a picture but the door had been pulled down. Wouldn’t non-garage garage photos make a neat coffee table book?

Lis reflecting and making better choices in life.

Cool idea

I think back at all the things that went on in our garage in my youth. We had a sleep-over, set up our Barbie houses and played barbies, sat in our lawn chairs and watch the rain… That would be a “cool coffee table book”.

not that I know what's authentic...

but I have always loved what I think of as Indian dancing. Very sexy!

I think so too

I had an absolute blast doing this today. One of the most enjoyable dance/workouts I’ve tried. Very upbeat and saucy. I actually kept going, dancing all around my living room after the class was over.

A friend was telling me this afternoon she knows of some good local places to take Indian dance lessons, though I don’t know that I’m ready to move beyond my own doors yet.

A friend and I were actually talking this morning about how we’d like to join the local Bollywood dance class. I fear I’d spend the whole time in hysterics though!

We were too!

This particular friend and I have a habit of turning each other into the schoolgirls giggling at the back of the class. Man, I wish I’d caught a vid of Isak trying to follow along, hopping around, looking like he was trying to pick fruit or screw in a lightbulb.

GO for it! I don’t feel as graceful as I’d like to be in order to dance in front of a room of strangers. GREAT exercise though.

Ru ~ dig deeper has gotten 6 cheers on this entry.
