Once, driving Las Vegas to Boston for my job (1999), and then Boston to Vegas and back in December 2004 to visit family. The more time you can take doing this, the better.

Take some smaller roads and stop at every interesting thing. Visit at least one ghost town and one national park. :) Enjoy it! You’ll probably never pass that way again.
