I Need a Beer 18 months ago

My overwhelingly positive experiences with coffee have me thinking that perhaps I should give beer another shot, too. Drinking more than one alcoholic beverage in a sitting makes me very ill, but I do think that I could gain a whole lot of benefits from finding a beer that I liked and having one, or better yet going out for one, once in a while. My feeling is that, like coffe, cheap bear is not the way to go, especially since I’ll only be drinking one at a time.

So, my question is, do any of you have any recommendations about which beer or beers I should try first in my quest to find one that I like?

My two cents worth

I enjoy Alexander Keith’s (possibly only available in Canada – if so, I’ll mail you one ;o)

and I’ve heard very good things about Stella (though I could never order one without hollering it, a la Brando)

And of course, Corona – with a lime wedge – on a hot summer day is a refreshing treat.

But I’m no connoisseur.

Corona

Yes, Corona with a lime wedgie. :D I like it because I feel that it’s lighter than most beers but not light on taste. I don’t get all bloated when I drink it…one, when I drink one…because I’m still only drinking one when I do drink. ;)

One

is all I can have at a time, anyway.

That makes two votes for Corona. :)

Thanks Sweets

Those are all excellent choices and give me good places to start.

As much Mexican food as I eat, I should have thought of Corona on my own.

I would suggest

one if I liked beer. I think all beer tastes like ass water.

LOL!

That’s OK. I asked my friend who is a beer fanatic. He suggested Blue Moon, which I tried and discovered is indeed pretty tasty.

Blue Moon

I think someone recommended that to me once too and said that I would probably like it although I don’t like most beers. I think I did taste it, from what I remember it tasted like all other beer. I even tried a grape flavored beer once, it tasted just like you might imagine…beer+grape cough medicine.
So then the beer thing is starting to work for you? I’ve tried and just can’t do it. Coffee worked out a lot better for me because I always used to drink my grandma’s cold coffee when she would leave it sitting on the table in the morning. I have to sweeten mine up though. I wish I could drink it minus the sweetners like you have been!

Yeah

I think Blue Moon is really tasty. In fact, I just might go have me one in just a minute.

I have come to love the taste of coffee with milk in it. I love the whole experience that drinking it provides my senses.

Local Microbrew

If you have those in your area… you must, right? Or one made nearby someplace. This is the equivalent to a fine locally roasted coffee. Start with a light one, like a wheat or pale ale or lager.

mmmmm… I love beer. We are blessed with 4 or 5 microbreweries just in a 20 mile radius.

The one I tried first

was a what beer, and I thought it was pretty darn tasty.

I’m sure we have microbrews around here somewhere. I’ll just have to look around and see what I can find.

I hope you are starting to feel better!!

Thanks, I am!

Well, lately I wake up feeling great! Then poop out about 2pm and need to nap all afternoon… I’ll get there.

Enore is

And as I seem to recall...

...you can suck down a pitcher pretty easily.

Who me?

The pitcher I can handle… it’s when a certain someone insists on chasing it with a bottle of SoCo that things get fuzzy.

Enore is

Huh?

You talkin’ to ME?

Maybe

you should everyone just how much drunker you get after your second beer.

sabryn okay...how about a calm December?

A bit late on this

but as one of my least favorite beers of all time (Corona) appears on here several times, I have to speak up. :)

I’m generally a Bud Light kind of girl (cheap, nonthreatening, and available just about everywhere). However, I’ve been inspired by recent adventures in beer tasting to broaden my horizons a bit.

Dos Equis rocks.

I’ve had good luck with anything named Oktoberfest.

I’m about to give Beck’s Light another shot (my first bottle was nearly a year past its best-by date); I think it will find a place on my favorites list.

In fact, a beer-tasting might be a good thing for you. If there’s a World Market near you (or any other store that offers build-your-own-6-packs, just go nuts. Also, some brands offer variety packs of 12 or 15 beers. (You don’t have to drink it all in one sitting. :)

A word of warning: Never, ever, ever drink Natural Light. Not even if you’re lost in the desert and dying of thirst. Not even if a friend offers you one. Be rude.

Oh, how I wish someone had told me that last bit.

WOW!!

Thank you for all the excellent advice here. You’re not at all too late.

I had no idea about the build yourown 6 pack thing. That would be perfect for me to try all kinds of stuff. The beer tasting idea is great, too.

My friend, who qualifies as a beer connosieur, just told me the other day to ask for Dos Equis or Tecate and pass on the Corona.

sabryn okay...how about a calm December?

Tecate

I’ve not had. So if you try it, you’ll have to report back!

I will!

All I know so far is I like Blue Moon, as reported above.

sabryn okay...how about a calm December?

I've not had

that, either. I’ll have to put it on my list!
