Simplify. (read all 6 entries…)

I somehow lost the point of this goal  — 2 months ago

My life has been quite complicated lately, because there has been so much going on. At some point I was wishing I could lead a simple life and just take it easy but now I’ve noticed that I actually enjoy it when a lot is happening. I want my life to be full of interesting events and new experiences.

However, there might be some stuff that just makes things more complicated without bringing anything good and getting rid of those would make my life simpler without removing anything that I don’t want to remove. The question is: how to recognize those things?

Like what things?

How to recognize those things? Well I think you already answered to this question by yourself: “there might be some stuff that just makes things more complicated without bringing anything good”. So what are these things? You can only answer that yourself. If you find some stuff that’s restricting yourself and you can’t find anything good about it, then it might be one of those things.

But…Do you really want to make life easy? Like you said yourself, it’s more interesting when there’s all kind of stuff going on. But if there’s too much stuff that might take all your energy, so you have to learn to recognize what are those things you don’t need.

Oh well. I might not be the best person to advise you since there’s not that much things going on in my life and I usually make my life more complicated than it could be.

I hope I am not one of those complicating things that you want to get rid off…

I know this one...

Look, life is chaos. When it’s good chaos, you can jump in with both feet and it’s easy to figure out where you’re going and where you’ve been, even when there’s a lot going on and you’re out adventuring and gathering up all sorts of new experiences. When it’s bad chaos, you’re in over your head and you want to slough off all of the things that you just can’t deal with right now. For some people with this goal, that means that they get their bills and finances organized and their budget in line with their income. For others, it means they toss out junk mail and old clothes and all sorts of flotsam and jetsam that have been dragging them down. Others need to cut off the psychic vampires in their lives, whether that’s an old friend who isn’t that friendly or old habits that need to stop. You’ll have to figure it out for yourself, but simplifying lets you see the adventure out there so you don’t just let yourself get swept along with the tide.

Incidentally, the Discardian blog is one of my favorites, even though it’s dormant at the moment… Take a whirl through it and see if anything rings true.

I followed the link and looked at Discardian. It had some very interesting tips.

Discardian...

I wish she still wrote it. Sigh.

Thanks for the advice!

That was a well-written comment and I’m definitely going to check out this blog you recommended. :-)

I know I have to learn to recognize what’s good chaos and what’s bad; what is dragging me down and what pushes me forward; which things enrich my life and which are nothing but clutter, but it ain’t easy. However, like you said, I have to figure it out for myself. I just need some time to think about it and perhaps some inspiration.

No problem...

and like every other goal, it’s best if you start small and make baby steps towards the things you want. You’ll find that what you want changes anyway…
