dumpster dive (read all 6 entries…)
ashamed 18 months ago

i always see great stuff in my apartment’s dumpster (or sitting beside it)...
but i am always too embarrassed to take it inside with me.
and i tell myself sometimes i will wait until it’s dark,
but then by that time it’s either already been taken, or it rains and ruins whatever it was in the dumpster.
i really want to start actually going around to a lot of local dumpsters and just taking home whatever i find that is good… and have no shame doing it!

Comments:

beckerkorn / BlueHeron whips it, into shape. Shape it up, get it straight.

Just think of it this way...

there is MORE shame in throwing out/wasting something that is still good to use!!

The people I know who dumpster dive are some of the most ethical people I know who treat their friends like royalty and strangers with kindness.

Go for it

Half the time I think people are putting it there realizing that someone is going to take it. I have been embarassed before about grabbing things at the curb, but some of them have been amazing finds, and someone else is going to nab it if you dont! I am inspired by articles in magazines about what they have done with castoff items exactly like this! Things they find at the curb and refurbish. I wish I had half the creativity. I wish I would find more things! Beckerhorn is right too, what a waste to throw it away so good for you for putting the item to use.
