find my father (read all 3 entries…)
Never Give Up !!! 3 months ago

Hello all,

My name is Angel and I wanted to share with you all. Please don’t despair. I found out about my real father when I was 11 years old and it was a long and painful search for many years. I looked everywhere I could think of. I had Children’s Aid Services looking (I was in foster care), I called over 1500 people long distance. I had 2 police officers do searches and 1 private investigator.

I am now nearly 30 and on June 18th 2008 (yes, almost 2 weeks ago) He found me!!!

I was still actively searching but after so many years it was starting to look bleak. He too had been searching all these years and he found my Grand Father and through him, me. We’ve been sending emails every day for the last 2 weeks and plan to meet as soon as we can (he lives 20 hours away).

I share this because during my search I needed to hear stories like these to keep me searching hard. Please people, search hard and never give up!!! Even if you don’t end up liking the person you find, you’ll be glad you never gave up.

If any of you are interested in help, send me all the info you have on your missing parents and I will do what I can to help you search.

Congratulations!

I have been looking for my father for many years. I found him briefly about 23 years ago. I am 50. But have lost him. Naturally I did not think to ask him for his social security number, lol.

We are American Indian and it is very difficult to check records, since the government “made up” our names to sound more American. I know his white name and his middle inital.

The unfortunate thing is that many Indians were named that same American name, so searching is very tedious and difficult. Since I do not know his Indian name and certainly cannot locate it in the records, I really am at a loss.

I have checked on-line using the Dawes records and every other record available. I think I am at the end of the line.

I am very glad you have been able to locate your father and hope all works well for you both!

Hi Yatehay,

I would be glad to help you in any way I can. Please give me more information to work with and I will do some searching. Keep in mind too that I am in Canada and therefore my search results may be quite different than yours have been. What I mean by this is you should tell me what you’ve tried on the Net so I can try the same things here.

You may enjoy knowing I leave this Friday to go meet my Dad for the first time. =D I’m so excited. It will be a 27 hour bus ride there and another 27 hour bus ride back and I only get to stay at his place for less than 2 days but it will be worth it.
