Ok, I’m thinking of getting my lip pierced but the only problem is that it’s not allowed at school. :(
Stupid I know, your only allowed pierced ears.

Any ideas on how to get around this?

Also any other advice re. piercing would be much appreciated :)

Could you maybe

have it pierced but take out the stud or whatever when you are at school?

I'm pretty

sure they close up real quick.
I’d be at school for 9 hours…

Basketball injury?

cold sore? shaving accident? :P

I know that’s not helpful. But I don’t see any way around it.

Are you in school right now during summer?

Nope

Ha, I know people who pierced their nose and they put tiny little plaster over it.
What can the principal say… no plasters?

yes,

you can’t take it off until it’s healed. if you take it off for even 1 min in the first weeks it will start to close and you won’t be able to get it in.

I don't suppose there IS any way around it.

But, what the hell does the school care if your lip is pierced? Dumb shit, it sounds like to me.

It is stupid.

The principal is really strict when it comes this crap.
I mean I understand some stuff.
But it’s my body I can do what I want with it…

Jeez, I sound like such a teenager…bleh

greenforlife is content.

I agree with you though.

It’s not like a lip ring is distracting to your fellow classmates or anything. That’s lame.

PROTEST!! haha

No, but seriously, I’d probably protest… knowing me.

I don't think it's anyone's business.

You know, if schools would concentrate on teaching instead of sticking their fucking noses into shit that doesn’t concern them, you guys would learn more and better, and they might actually accomplish something.

Bam, kapow!

Awesome!

You are great :)

Elusive Sleuth time to mix it up

I’m not sure how you could get around it, but I thought i’d share here a case of someone being suspended from a school in my country because they turned up at school one day with dreads. There was a lot of protest about that.

Hair?

Lots of people have dreads – I don’t see how that could be problematic or disruptive. But then I don’t see how a lip piercing would be, either.

My daughter had the school

in an uproar over her hair.

She was on the verg of suspension she had two tone hair when she started the school. Red and black.

She dyed it a blond red {closer to her natural colour} one teacher and that is all it took, she had to dye it black or not be allowed back into school.

her natural hair colour is a blond brown.

So much for NONdiscrimination.

I just don't see any justification

for forcing certain hair colors or styles on kids in school! I could understand an objection to a kid sporting a Hitler mustache on the basis of causing disruption in a school, or a t-shirt with “Kill the Ragheads” on it, also offensive and disruptive. But hair in general – nobody’s business! Hair lice, yeah…

I’ve seen colored/striped hair, ‘fro’s, nose rings, & dreads in public work places. No disruption there!

Yeah.

What Kel said.

I don't give one

bit about the colour of my baby’s hair or the rings she has. She wants to get a Monroe but knows the school would have a fit.

She just recently dyed her hair a very noticeable red.

When she left school after the big to do over he last hair choice, the principle said he would fight for her hair if it happened again.

This is a 4 point honor commended performance student, she causes NO trouble and has brought their TASK scores up for the whole school.

Her hair colour bothers no one but this one teacher. What I find so funny is this teachers daughter was my sons teacher and we had issues with her too.

So the mother daughter team is hatin’ my children and their choices as to how to prettify themselves.

I say they need to get the fuck out of mine and my children’s lives. If they were disruptive kids that is one thing but they are both commended performance children, both raise the TASK high. I just don’t understand any of it myself.

They should concern themselves with bully’s more than hair colour.

Circulate a petition...

Have every student, (even faculty supporters) sign the petition in the school sign it, Bring it up to the next School Board meeting and state your request for allowing lip piercings and any other piercing that would not distract the students. Get the support of the student body Presidents. Check out other HS in your state and see what HS allow lip piercings, if you can find a 1/2 dozen or more that’s good information to collect. While having the petition circulated invite local newspaper or even TV coverage to film and publicize this event. WHy does the school allow ear piercings and not lip piercings? Is the principal discriminatory of people with lip piercings? Is he afraid your going to get your lip caught in the water bubbler? (scratch that comment I was trying to be funny)

You could also have a “Student Protest Walk Out” and march to City HAll and visit the School Comissioner and have your say. However, you need 1)almost 80% or more signatures of the students; 2) names of other HS that allow lip piercings
3) pressure from the media to film and document your petition complaint and 4) support from your own student government and 5) threat of a student walk out if after all of this information you collect doens’t work.

Principals and School Commisioners don’t like it when students prove them wrong, it’s bad for the town and potential new home buyers. TV and newspapers can also put pressure on re-election of School Commisioners.

The town Mayor becomes involved, School Commitee members have power on what is allowed and not allowed in schools. Maybe many parents agree with you line of thinking, recruit these parents. Visit nearby schools and have them start similar protests, hey, that’s what text messages are for, right? Mass communication in devloping petitions against shcool rules that make no sense at all. Let me know how it goes and when your lost for more ideas. Kudos.

Love,

George :)

Might do a goggle search for similar cases from other states and overseas. Good luck I admire your courage.

Thanks George! :)

I might talk to my friend, she’s on the Students Council and she has her nose pierced so she’ll be on my side! :D

You might

wanna check out those transparent labret jewels:

As for advice…
Make sure you know NOW if you’ll be using rings, or if you’ll keep it to studs. The angle isn’t the same, and it will take so much longer to heal (and will be so much more prone to infections even long after) if you say you want it suitable for rings but use a stud.
I did that. Got it 4 years ago, have not bought a ring yet, so I only use studs, and I’m still dealing with the occasional infection. A real pain in the neck!

Good luck with it! :D

Oops!

Forgot to click on Jack’s link first…
Oh well, at least you have a UK website too now ;)

Hmm.

I’m not sure whether I want to go ring or stud yet.
But I’ll call in to a good piercing place and talk someone there before I do anything.
Thanks for the link! :D

*Mama Bear* missing you guys...

This was...

...also what my piercer advised me. He said he had seen too many people wanting to be able to use rings and then never using one anyway, so he was really trying to pressure me to drop that idea. Turned out he was right, and I’m probably not gonna wear a ring any time soon either.

Good luck with it!
Oh! And in case you’re wondering, I think it really doesn’t hurt :)

*Mama Bear* missing you guys...

Update!

Hey Goldie!
Just wanted to let you know about those transparent studs.
I just bought one (for a job that wasn’t too happy about the lip piercing), and it’s rubbish. Instead of being invisible, you can see it even more, because it looks weird, and you stare at it tring to find out what it is.
The stud is transparent, but it’s white on the inside, and that can be seen through (hard to explain). In the worst case, it looks like you have a spot with a disgusting white head on it… Yuk!

The least noticeable thing I’ve found is a tiny tiny stud. But you can still see it…

Did you get that piercing??

Thanks for letting me know!
I haven’t got it yet, I can’t get dad to agree. :(
And it’s a bit late in the summer to be getting it done, it probably wouldn’t be healed properly.
I’ll have to wait till next summer.
And I’ll defiantly keep what you said about the clear studs in mind. :)

well...

I don’t know where you live, but here they only pierce with stainless steel or titanium piercings, because of the healing process and the body rejection. I don’t know what these transparent piercings are made of, so ask the body piercer if there’s no problem piercing with those. if there is, you’ll have to pierce with the stainless steel/titanium one and then when it’s healed change to the transparent one. after they heal – no problem changing it.

Pierced

The only problem that i can foresee you might have with the clear Labret Retainer is that in the early stages of a piercing you should touch it as little as possible, and if you are going to be changing it day to day for a clear retainer you will impede the healing period to say the least, not to mention put yourself through unnecessary pain.

Lip & Labret piercings usually take between 6-8 weeks to fully heal. You will experience swelling usually 2-3 days after the piercing, this swelling can last 7-10 days. A longer Labret stud must be worn till the initial swelling has gone down; it can then be replaced by a shorter one. With this in mind try to do the piercing over school holidays. Giving the piercing time to heal with the bar it was pierced with. You will not be able to do this on a Saturday and go in school on the Monday wearing a retainer. Not unless you want to go to the hospital and have the retainer pulled out of your face anyway. ;)

Also, In the healing period the piercing has a tendency to move position on the inside of the lip, this process is called nesting. Rings have a greater tendency to do this than labrets because they tend to move around more, which puts stress on the wound. IMO i would go for a bar rather than a ring. I’ve had both and i had the least trouble and faster healing with the bar.

Good luck :)

Thanks!

If if I do it would do it as soon as possible because I don’t have school again until September so it should have healed enough to change by then, right?
And I probably wouldn’t change it to and from the clear and normal one everyday. :)

ElectroGirl 'you do it to yourself, you do...'

September

Yeah, sure. Id say that would be ok :)

Clear?

My school accepts gold and silver spherical studs in the earlobe only. No piercings of any sort. Hair colour is just as bad. “Jet black” is not a hair colour… Um… What about our international students from Japan or China? shrugs Silly school. Perhaps get a stud rather than a ring (to avoid the hooked fish look) and make sure it’s very small or has a small clear head. My friend gets away with two piercings in her ear because she wears clear headed studs in her ears and keeps her hair down to cover the backs – sneaky. This is probably too late but I just wanted to help.
