Ru ~ dig deeper glitter in her wake...

find at least one thing each day that makes me happy and record it everyday for a year (read all 660 entries…)
A little silence 12 months ago
  • After a terribly twoish day full of toddler tantrums and broken things left in his wake (including my vintage word ball which was filled with 10,000 tiny words – it looked like a giant dictionary threw up all over the living room), I took a walk alone to relax. I sat at the lake watching the sky do interesting things and the mountain light turn an odd green. It was quiet. Even the ducks were quiet, leaving ripples behind them, disturbing the reflection of the sky.
    I ...e x h a l e d.
  • Two young boys rode their bikes to the lake to watch the sunset. They politely joined me and I enjoyed hearing their 10 year old conversation and offering them my thoughts on rats and clouds when they asked.
  • Dreaming about having butterflies all over my hands, searching for salt.

Comments:

A lake sounds like the perfect remedy after a rascal rampage! I need one.

I will pour some into a little film container

And send it to you for next time you need it. Keep it in a little glass box next to a ball-peen hammer. (And perhaps you can send me some of that lovely snow to put on my forehead?)

Yes. Let’s swap!

Do you happen to have a doppelganger pmt migraine today too?

I do

Although today that stands for Psychotic Manipulative Toddler. We’ve had a turbulent morning. I hope your noggin is feeling better.

what a gorgeous description

of your day.

sounds fabulous : )

Those clouds...

love them. So peaceful!

Thanks for that!

Toddlers

They’re an opportunity for a meditation practice. I remember doing so much deep breathing, while Emma would rage some horrible tantrum.

If you don't mind,

Ru, would you tell me about your “vintage word ball which was filled with 10,000 tiny words”? That sounds like a really amazing object!

The word ball

I don’t mind at all… (photo up there)

My word ball… I love it. I saw another one once on E-bay, but they seem rather hard to find. It was supposedly a tool for stimulating the right brain and assisting with writer’s block.

It’s chock full of different words and you turn the handles to churn them around, then look in the lens and try to write using the random words there (or find associative inspiration).

This one used to belong to my friend Russ, who knew I coveted it, so he gave it to me for my birthday several years ago. I don’t think I realized quite how many words were in there before they escaped.

It still works, but I need to find a way to glue the lens back in.

Thanks, Ru!

That’s a very interesting device—I like it! I hope you’ll be able to find a way to glue the lens & repair it.

Best wishes to you & yours. smile
