Eliminate the word 'gotten' from my vocabulary (read all 4 entries…)
Nearly, nearly there.

I can’t think of a substitute word for ‘gotten’ when used in this context, ‘I haven’t gotten through to you, have I?’. Does anyone have any ideas?

Apart from this minor hiccup, I now subconsciously avoid speaking or writing this word. Another month and I’m convinced I will have accomplished this goal.

What about

“made clear”/”made myself clear”?

I think “gotten through” makes it sound like they’re dense, maybe, and “made myself clear” means that you’re taking responsiblity for being opaque. If that makes any sense. Of course, sometimes they are being dense, but that’s up to you if you want to phrase it that way… :)

Thanks :)

Ahh I didn’t think of that one! I don’t normally say things like ‘I haven’t gotten through to you, have I?’. I was just curious as to what I could replace ‘gotten’ with in that particular context.
