A short story of mine appeared today 17 months ago

in the latest (online) issue of Quay.

Title: “Comfort Food”

I haven’t seen the print version yet, but I will soon, when my copy gets mailed.

or you can visit Truckee Book and Bean in Truckee, CA, or BookPeople of Moscow (Idaho) to check out the print journal, and send me one. LOL

This is a nice way to start a vacation. :)

Congratulations!

I think that’s a big accomplishment… unless you have many short stories in print, in which case, it’s still an accomplishment.

From one writer to another

Thank you!

Publication is always a big accomplishment, but this is a first for one of my short stories.

Thanks again, Rosy.

First short story??!!!

Then you have my (and my 15 years of half hearted publication attempts) standing ovation!

Congratulations and huzzah! All hail the published short story writer!

YAY! YAY! YAY!

I don’t know why I didn’t read it before, I guess my 43t time has been limited.

Great story!

I read all the way through even though I have so many things to do today. It sucked me in. I’m so glad…it ended the way it did. I won’t give it away to your other readers.

Congratulations once again.

Great job, Jenn!

It’s beautifully written too. (I just indulged—now I must get back to work!)

That's not all

Not only that, but I hope to submit to Quay for their next issue. I have a “journey” piece that’s part of a novel I’m working on.

Might you be willing to share?

Big and Little

Thank you for reading my story, and for liking it. :)

Read it

and absolutely loved it!

The connection between the narrator and Glenna is truly striking, the ways in which they are opposites as well as the way you use the scene in the tattoo parlor to truly bind them together as two women whose stories are told on their bodies. I really like how you use the tattoos as the beginning of their recovery process, as ways of marking both the pay their bodies have endured and the healing that must begin.

Your story had so many wonderful lines in it. I esepcially love the parts where the narrator inspects Nikki after she is born and where she talks about how food and phone conversations with her mother just seem to go together, “like movies and popcorn, only less entertaining.” However, my favorite line in the story was “if she survives, she will be famous.”
