I got a job at a law firm after I thought I didn’t want to work for one, and I didn’t get the job in-house for a venture capital company that I thought I wanted. But it turns out, my new job looks fairly family-friendly (I can do some of the work from home), I’ll get to manage and try my own cases, from start to finish, and do the writing too. Plus in the midst of a recession and law firm layoffs, litigation seems to be an area where there is always work. It’s been hard to change my thinking from, what fun obscure areas of law do I like learning about to, what areas of law a) hire new untrained lawyers and b) have a steady paying client stream?
