finally done it! 18 months ago

i’ve been planning to do this for ages..i just kept putting it off for another day..but lately i’ve felt so infuriated and depressed at the world’s injustices i knew i had to do something, however small. and ok, it isn’t gonna magically eradicate the whole world’s problems. the world will never be a utopia. but at the same time, i think it’s very dangerous to society to hold the idea that you are completely powerless as an individual, it is for this exact reason, combined with comfortable ignorance/inaction, that there is so much injustice in the world. it’s jsut like the vote, one vote alone seems to have a negligable effect on the turnout, but if everyone in support of a certain party did that, the results would alter dramatically. ok, so what i’m basically saying is however seemingly insigificant your contribution to a cause, there is strength in numbers. ok this isn’t reqally a nice analogy, but i’m gonna use it to prove a point: if a ridiculously small political party headed by an evil genius with crazy ideologies can lead to the slaughter of 6 million jews and others, then surely the power of good can multiply equally in strength if supported by many individuals?? i’m no longer a hopeless idealist, i know it’s impossible to save the world or even a great proportion of it, but surely improving the quality of at least 1 or 2 people’s lives, by doing something as simple as joining a cause which is close to your heart and taking some small simple actions, is worth doing..is it not?? the power is in your hands! :) of course, there is also the ripple effect, where your actions may influence someone else to contribute to the power of good..for instance perhaps this will inspire a few people with this goal to decide to finally take the plunge, as i have been inspired by certain people i know and others i don’t, e.g angelina jolie and her humanitarian work. the important thing is that you join and help a cause of your freewill, so no-one should be co-erced or guilt-tripped into joining (other than by their own conscience, depending on which cause is closest to their heart) and that we all have a choice to support and prioritise individually whichever charities/causes we consider to be of most pressing concern to humanity
