New York City

I have visited NYC once in my life. I was 2 years old. I remember several things: the hospital where I almost died & was given last rites; a cuckoo clock belonging to my grandparents neighbors, and a parakeet someone owned.

My Daddy grew up in NYC and I think it is time to visit it. There is a bus tour going in October & Mom & I think we should sign up.

Comments:

Mary Hawkins is ignoring cheers on this site for now. I still like you!

You should!

Plus, by October our weather is cool and nippy. August is the worst time to visit… If I could think of a reason to leave, I would…

When you come, you should definitely try to visit The Strand. It’s a huge bookstore with new + old + strange books on 12th and Broadway.

Booookstorrrre!!!!!

I will hafta write down the address & be on the look out for it. I love stopping at bookstores!

I wouldn’t go to any big city in August – not after too many Summers in St. Louis, where my Dad’s parents retired. All the buildings retain heat!

Good Luck!

I don’t know where you’re from, but I went to school for a while in the States (Midwest). NYC is lovely (ok, this is debatable, not everyone loves it) and it is sooo different from most of the US cities I’ve been to. You definitely should take a look now that you’re all grown up. I know you’re considering the bus tour, but make sure you also have lots of opportunities to walk around. With its gridded streets, NYC is fairly pedestrian friendly :). Have fun!

Thank you!

I live in Southern Minnesota. We are taking bus tour but there are days we are dropped off in areas to wander. Mom is in her mid-seventies, but active. Some walking is good, but I doubt we could trek all over. I am considering this a “Taste of NYC.” A Broadway play; trip to Ellis Island & the Statue of Liberty; Top of the Rock; Central Park; China Town & WTC/Ground Zero.

On the way home we stop at the Hershey Chocolate Factory to sweeten the tour. :D

If you get as far as Boston,

I’ll come and meet you! NYC is a bit of a hike for us, like a 6 hour drive, not exactly a “short jaunt”!

When is the trip to Irvine, or did you do that and I missed it?

jkd

Flutterbyflyby3 The will to persevere is often the difference between failure and succ

No Boston...

this time. But it is a possibility for the future. The Irvine trip is next year. This is actually a rehearsal for it. I want to make sure I can ride the bus without getting motion sick. I have terrible motion sickness. I don’t even remember the flight back from Florida in January, just a blurr of nausea & dopey feeling. I am not flying to Scotland to be motion sick for 3 weeks. Riding a bus hasn’t bothered me in the past, so making sure that has not changed. There is a reason I don;t travel..love to go places, hate the transit!

You'll have a great trip!

Definitely to Ellis Island and Lady Liberty. How about the Bronx Zoo? Radio City? So many things to do (BTW- I live in NJ and rarely go in!)

Flutterbyflyby3 The will to persevere is often the difference between failure and succ

So much to do...

Lady Liberty & Ellis Island are definite – my Daddy’s family came thru there. My Mom is a genealogist so we wouldn’t dream of missing it!

Radio City is another definite. I don;t think we will get a chance to go to the Zoo or Coney Island, both on my someday list.

We will be staying in Elizabeth, NJ.

Flutterbyflyby3 has gotten 5 cheers on this entry.
