make homemade water ice (read all 3 entries…)

Worth doing!

yum  — 1 month ago

I made it last night and had some for desert tonight. Homemade water ice is so much better than the frozen type you can buy in a grocery store and healthier as it uses real sugar instead of corn syrup. From now on if it is not homemade water ice than it is not worth the calories.

So, which flavor did you make?

Lemon? Root-beer? Or something new?

lemon

Root beer would be good but I still need to track down a recipe on how to make root beer water ice.

I just now remembered that I used to have...

something called a “slush mug.” I guess you probably could also have called it a “water ice mug.”

The slush mug had some kind of liquid contained within its walls, and you would keep it in the freezer. Then, whenever you were in the mood for slush, you would take your pre-frozen slush mug out of the freezer, pour in your favorite chilled liquid…juice, lemonade, root-beer, or whatever…and start stirring. In a few minutes, it would make an instant mug of slush.

Actually, I had two of them. Unfortunately, that was one of the few things that I’ve thrown away in the last few years, when I found them in the back of the freezer and realized I hadn’t used them in years. I wish I could have sent them on to you. I wonder if you could find something like that anywhere these days? It made it easy and fun to try different kinds of slush.

What's your favorite flavor?

I just happened to find this one if you’d like it. :-)

Pardon my ignorance

I have never had a water ice. Once when I went to Philadelphia a friend of mine who had spent a couple of years living there told me to try one.

Of course I when I was in Philadelphia the temperatures were sub-freezing. When I asked people where I could find a water ice they told me to come back in the summer.

Can someone tell me a little bit more about water ice, perhaps even share a recipe? It’s pretty well unheard of in my part of the country.

I had the same question...

...back when C_C originally added this goal. If you look back through the two earlier entries & comments under this goal, you’ll get more info about water ice including recipes. :)

I didn’t think to check the other entries on the subject. I’ll give it a shot.
