St Dunstan- in-the-West, concert for the centenary of Olivier Messiaen(1908-2008) 18 months ago

This really blew me away…... lifted me out of a nasty, persistent grey depression and enriched my spirit.
They played the quartet for the end of time- Quartuor pour la fin du temps. Messiaen wrote this whilst imprisoned by the nazi’s during world war 2. He discovered he was jailed with a cellist, violin player & clarinetist. They performed it for the first time to 5000 of their fellow prisoners in 1941.
I’d never heard of Messiaen before but lately seem to be attracted to classical music, which I know very little of. Followed my nose to this free luchtime concert in a beautiful church on Fleet street in the City.
