Finish SICP (read all 2 entries…)

So I finished SICP earlier this year. Totally worth doing. Changed my understanding of programming languages and computation in deep and subtle ways. Fleshed out some missing pieces in my CS education, since I am self taught. If you can get past the math and style of the first part, you are golden. Hang in there. Ping me for help.

Soooo....

How important would you say having pre-calculus or calculus is to being able to work through the text. I’m pretty much getting my ass kicked by the math terminology and such (Never learned theta, or how to do proofs, or such.)

I’ve done all the non-proofy excercises up to 1.16…

Any suggestions on where to get ahold of the math I’d need to comprehend the parts about mathematically measuring process space/time?

I would say knowing calculus is not very important to learning the actual lessons they are trying to teach.

In terms of measuring programs, logarytms andorher algebra is all that’s needed.

Tonight I will look up 1.16. If you want to grab coffee or lunch to discuss, I’m game.

Heh. Sadly, I live in the Boston, and didn’t notice the localized nature of the posting. But that’s very kind of you ;-)

I am happy to have a “cyber-coffee” over email or IM.
