Almost a Mojito 17 months ago

Musings from Rat, who was extra-diligent about work deadlines and the like:

There is an image at the back of my mind, of a street painter self-indulgently muddling a Mojito at the cusp of an outdoor cafe Sunday afternoon. I am in sunglasses, he in an insouciant smile. I walk by, a faint trail of mint following, thinking ‘Will I be free to paint like that, to grin, to radiate, to be emanating attitude and boldness and grace, all with a simple gesture?’

Your comment

is magic in itself.

You know, then, of the fusing of the cerebral and the physical that creates art. How delicious the recognition (once is is already happening there is no stopping it), how rare its beauty, how challenging to prolong and to recreate.

There is something about the access to abandon that does make us better painters. It is a difficult access, sometimes fleeting, sometimes maddening in its transience. Is there a traceable link? Summer madness?

Perhaps we should arrange a Mojito Eve of Painting, see what develops. Style will not be optional!

Summer madness, yes.

It’s a different beast from the Green Fairy, which requires more ritual than a Japanese Tea Ceremony. (Not that ceremony is a bad thing; it does somehow dampen the spontaneity of art done over the span of a few hours.)

A Mojito Eve of Painting, then! It may be limiting to aim to adhere strictly to a theme; perhaps the ode of the Mojito is enough to inspire. (I once, as a piece of performance art, finished a staged painting with cocktail as water-colour medium, but that was, as they say, a long time ago, and part of a longer story.)
Self Mojito portraits?
Confessional Mojito Poetry as visual art?
Mojito improvisational music and dance?

Together, we will be a 43 Opera of Mojito, a summer brew, muddled with abandon, a little herbal magic, a little kick.

What’s not to love?

Dates to throw in the air:

Mondays, Fridays, Sundays are good- how much lead time do people need? (I am always in the studio on my oddy-knocky with a lot of paint at hand.)
