get a degree in Mathematics (read all 2 entries…)
I failed math at school and at uni first time... 4 years ago

But I discovered a passion for it in my later years
Forgot everything I ever learnt (In fact the only thing I remember from school about math was that if I did an “x” like “multiplication x” instead of curvy, I would get caned 6x.

I bought math books from basic arithmetic up to advanced 3rd year calculus and spent 3 months learning from 1st principles. I am now quite competent and love the subject.

Started a degree a year ago at Birbeck as well, but work pressures and divorces forced me out :(
One day I am pushing myself to retire young so I can go back and do a PhD :) I’m motivated haahah

Math...

I loved Math in highschool, then dropped out. So I took it my first year in college, then dropped out.

The problem with math is that, while you might remember
a2 + b2 = c2 (as in a-squared), learning calculus is like riding up a snowy hill on a bike—if you lose momentum you have to
start from the beginning.

So, here’s what I say—online classes. There’s more pressure to go straight through a book, instead of learning from a text like it’s a a bathroom-puzzle book. Even if you don’t get the degree, you will advance. And if you do decide to get the degree, voila, credits.

Of course, a PHD is another story. Researching the nuances of zero isn’t something that online schools would really cater to…

Overall, good luck and go for it!
