help people who are not as fortunate as me
It doesn't take much. 4 years ago

On my birthday two years ago I was driving home from Riverside, CA to Palmdale, CA. I knew I wouldn’t get home in time to do my laundry so I had brought it with me. I don’t know the name of the town I stopped in on my way home. But I did stop to do my laundry at this corner liquor store that had a laundry next door. A man asked for my change. But he said “Excuse me sir. But could I have any spare nickles, dimes, or pennies you have.” He was polite and thoughtful. He knew I needed all the quarters I had to do laundry. I gave him all the spare change (sans quarters) I had. Then I told him to save it I would be right back. I went into the liquor store and bought him two burritos and a 40 ounce Mickey’s. Now some will say I shouldn’t encourage drinking in the homeless. But until you or I have lived on the street we should not judge too harshly. So since I was in such a good mood, due to his politeness, I bought these items for him. When you do something nice for someone it should be what they consider nice, not what you think is appropriate. So I feed him and gave him some liquid refreshments which made him thankful. I then drove him up this hill to his hiding spot and stocked it with water and snacks I keep in the car in case I break down in the middle of the desert. Oh, I also got my laundry done and I got to know him and his fall from grace. But since he did not give me permission to relate it to you I won’t.

nice job

you reap what you sow. The universe will give back to you.

So thoughtful

That was so thoughtful of you to do that. I wish I had the courage to.
@Shannon, i agree. The universe will give back to you.

Courage

The cowardly lion always had courage he just needed someone to show him that he did. What I did was quite possibly not the safest thing to do. But I was in a public place. You don’t have to do what I did, you can donate clothes to a local homeless shelter or food to a food bank. I just like to do it one on one so I know that all the money is going to the person that needs it and not only 10 or 20 cents on the dollar making to the needy. But if you know of a friend who is a little less fortunate than you lend them a hand and it will still be one more positive act to help rid the world of all these fevered egos that are tainting our collective unconcious. Oh…and stop driving gas guzzling SUV’s with “We Support Our Troops” stickers on them. It just isn’t right to mix the two. Make a choice to truly support our troops by reducing our dependence on fossil fuels not by consuming them at an increased rate. (another tangent: Have you noticed that SUV and SW look similar when handwritten? SW=Station Wagon and that the majority of people driving SUV’s would have driven a station wagon in the late sixties-early seventies?)
