Worth doing!
oh yes… when i was doing kundalini dhyan years ago… i used to enter in trance like state…
n i think… for me.. trance state is connecting to god.. its divine state… awareness of energy.. divine power of the whole world within ourself… as There is old statement in sunskit.. AHAM BHRAMHASMI !!
according to indian ancient DHYANYOG , it is TURIY AVASTHA… in that state we are aware of past, present n future… i think its state where our subconscious mind work… so.. well.. i think meditation is become aware of that subconscious mind, state…
most of the time we go in to deep sleep after having such experience.. lots of times.. i was half aware of trance n partially aware of my surroundings…
i think… Osho also have lots meditation techniques like experiencing ur inner world etc etc.. same as trance state…
well.. as usual .. google ji will hepl to find right answer…
:)
this is my assumption… not necessarily true

My salutations too, to googleji :D my best friend.
I am exactly in the state u mention, partially aware of the surroundings and trance. Its very relaxing.
Osho is the one who confused me, saying that trance like state is basically not useful. Its relaxing but doesnot help in your spritual development…
Being totally aware, or at least becoming more and more aware.
And—that means loosing your “little self” in greater and greater realities.
It depends on what you need in your life. Meditation can be relaxation and freeing yourself fro the daily grind and social connections or it could be to be more focused and aware of other people’s vibes/feelings.
More like a mix, if you ask me:
Being totally aware while not having anything to be aware of right there and then.
You don’t loose yourself while you sleep, so there’s no reason you should loose yourself while meditating.

background to this question, I tried nadabramha meditation and after doing it, i fell asleep for 4 hours. I read up more on it, osho says when the body and mind get engrossed in humming, you- the awareness should jump out and watch, if not the meditation is just like a tranquilizer.( I agree by exp ) I guess I have not yet achieved the state where I can seperate mind and awareness, mind gets engrossed then awareness too does I guess.
I tend to agree that it is both, but I have only experienced trance till now, not total awareness.
We are all in our own individual movies and the main actor is ourselves. Through the practise of meditation, we are then able to
look as a spectator of what is happening and how we react to things. Increasingly we then realise we always have a choice.

yes! so even if I enter trance like state during meditation, I should ideally be watching myself get into the trance as a spectator. right?
If you can be totally aware of what you are doing when you are doing it. Drinking your morning cup of coffee, taste the coffee, watch where your mind has gone…planning the next thing. In time meditation should be part and parcel of your life and not just done at specific times. AND yes…....keep practising, it is a wonderful journey.
It is the penultimate in self-realization and actualization. It is a truly valid practice for the building of your consciousness. Just make sure you put in the time and do it every day or every other day. Get into a routine. Otherwise, it fades away.

HumanZeitgeber if I'm standing on a whale fishing for minnows, then rise up whale!
being totally aware
loosing ‘yourself’ (ego etc) in order to truly find yourself – through pure awareness
It’s both. After regular practice you’ll be more aware of the world around you. The more intense your practice, you’ll loose yourself in bliss. Namaste!
