Which is the sexiest? Scottish
Which is the least attractive/most annoying? Not really annoying, but I’m maybe not wild about the real strong Southern US accent, like from Georgia and the like.
Is there a ‘kindest’ one? Indian English
Any that appears ‘stupid’?No native one I can think of.

Well,

English is still one of the official languages in India (I think?). And even if it isn’t anymore, then it is still very very widespread. I do consider Indian English as a native variety of English (and so do my fellow linguists). I wouldn’t consider them on the same level as… well, me, for instance :)

Strange how the native accents you dislike are the Irish ones… I love a Dublin accent!

And French??? Can you explain me that one?? Why does a French accent sound sexy? i don’t get that… It annoys me more than anything :)

America is a funny place, Temp.

In almost any other place on the planet, it wouldn’t be out of place to expect people to speak the native language. Here, expecting that is tantamount to racism. That is a silly and moronic position to establish, but that’s the case, much to my chagrin and embarrassment.

I met a guy like that once. In south of Spain. He had the WORST French accent ever. But then I realised he had been living in the UK for 5 years, and had in reality a pretty decent accent.
He had just realised the Frenchy thing was a chick magnet, so he faked it :)
I drove with him quite often around in his car, and it DID work!! He was quite ugly, yet, as soon as he spoke to girls (you know, the typical French guy, yelling stuff from his open window and whistling and stuff), they fell for him. He got quite a lot of dates like that… I can’t believe it!!

Although, talking about the annoying French guys coming up to you in the street… No matter how much it bugs me when I’m in Paris, living in a country where guys won’t even openly ‘check you out’ (it would be degrading), I really miss it. It does boost your self-confidence sometimes… ;)

Hmm, I need to spend a couple of minutes trying to read a book on a Parisian bench, and I’ll surely come back home screaming :D

My Danish friends cannot understand what I’m talking about…

Yesterday, I sat alone on a bench for a whole hour in a very busy park. Nothing. No one even came to sit next to me.

Worse. Tonight, I went to this really trendy bar and sat by myself for a whole hour (okay, it was actually a Meetup, but I decided not to join and to spend some time in my own company). And nothing. Not a look, not a smile, not a ‘is this seat taken?’. Nada.

I don’t think people who haven’t lived in Paris would understand what I’m talking about…

Anyway. Perhaps as a little clap on the shoulder from the skies to my shaky self-confidence, I ended up stopping at a crosslight on my bike in front of a couple of Arabic guys (Maghreb, for sure, but I didn’t hear from where). They made up for that evening :p

Hah! Had I been in Paris, I would have hated these guys and complained about them! You’re right, it’s weird to complain about both situations…

Yorkshire – not too strong.. i was thinking sheffield/chesterfield way. Cracks me up every time.

Scottish – im leaning more towards edinburgh than glasgow though

Scouse – how i ever dated one is beyond me ;)
or South African – It just sounds weird

IN NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS

Which is the most appealing accent to you? Probably Southern. Also any kind of accent from England, Ireland, Scotland.
Which is the sexiest? I am so surprised, because I had no idea how universally appealing a Scottish accent was. I thought it was just me. Count me in—Scottish.
Also sometimes, Southern U.S. Deep, sensual voices are sexy with nearly any accent.
Which is the least attractive/most annoying? Maybe Midwestern U.S. (Sorry, Julie and anyone else from the Midwest!)
Is there a ‘kindest’ one? Can’t think of any.
Any that appears ‘stupid’? Well, Southern accent is stereotyped that way, but it’s inaccurate. My son practically goes into spontaneous combustion when he hears people using a Southern accent to show someone is dumb, he is so insulted by it.

IN NON NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKERS

Which is the most appealing accent to you? Speaking their native language (not speaking English), I enjoy listening to Italian and Zulu the most because they have a beautiful music. Otherwise any accented English sounds nice.
Which is the sexiest? Maybe Russian, especially if he has a deep voice.
Which is the least attractive/most annoying? Can’t think of any.
Is there a ‘kindest’ one? Maybe East Indian.
Any that appears ‘stupid’? No. Individual people may come off as stupid, but it isn’t because of the accent.
