take up some sort of non-active hobby (read all 3 entries…)
Sudden idea 16 months ago

I have decided I might like to take up Quilt making. My Mom and I used to make simple quilts together.
Most of those quilts are now getting a little worn. I like the idea of doing something creative that also has a use…
Since I am financially strapped now, I may have to see if my Mom really wants her sewing machine any more (Since she has it stored away and doesnt use it I think she does not want it…)
I’ll let this idea sit for a bit before I run out and purchase a ton of stuff…Definitely not an active hobby though…it would be nice if I knew how to do this well, because then I could give some more personalized gifts etc…but this is going to take some doing…since even just one quilt is a long term project.
(Thanks to Nonna Cookbooker as it was her entry about quilting that made me see this as an option!)

thanks

I think part of this is that I do know I can do it. But it does require some space and lots of time, since I am in as always temporary housing…may not be too good to atart on, but then again, some easy patterns can be done in a weekend….

Good thinking..

... yes, small projects or easy, uncomplicated ones are always very satisfying..

Hope you get the time to start this again:)

Amy loves my life!!

Do you know any friends that are having babies? Starting with a crib quilt from flannel (you can even do it with no batting) is the perfect starter project. You could finish it in a couple of weeks even without really knowing what you are doing!!

Good luck!

I dont

but A lot of times I make stuff for people in shelters, etc, so a crib quilt for those would be something fun to do. I just have to figure out how to get a Machine. My Mom is in PA and I am in Florida…plus I think she may have given it to my sister! I guess I could handstitch it all, but as a beginner, I think the machine is probably going to give better results.

Collector of junk and lots more Moving some time in the next millineum.

How About Making Something No-Sew?

A friend made my granddaughter a baby blanket with some kind of super felt material. I don’t know what it is called but it can be cut and does not unravel or fray. She used 2 layers (it is reversible) and cut 1” fringe all the way around both pieces and then tied them. (I’m not really good at describing this, am I?). Anyway, my daughter told me it was the simplist thing on earth to do and I bought some material to have her do one for me. The cost of the material isn’t cheap but maybe you could get friends to donate a few $$$ since you’ll be doing the labor.
