The struggle to always learn requires careful balance. People tend to learn something once. Then they shut the doors on that subject forever, sure that they’ve learned all there was to know about it. Knowledge doesn’t work that way. It’s a continual process of refinement. The doors must stay open, and we must not assume we “know” anything. Otherwise there is no more light.

It is impossible for anyone to know everything in this life. Consider everything suspect, consider everything a learning opportunity. Listen carefully, ask questions and then keep your mouth shut while others share their answers. There are those who will pretend they have all the answers. That is a sad and dark life, the life of a closed mind. I fear the dark.

I need to listen better, to ask more questions, to always keep my mind open. May my mind always be open.
