Make my own Christmas gifts (read all 11 entries…)
This has to start now.. 2 months ago

... if I am to make mail and personal deadlines….

I have gathered a few ideas together, and am getting set up!

Comments:

I make most all of the Xmas gifts I give to people too; I really enjoy doing so and the recipients seem to enjoy the results of my efforts. I may join you on this goal later once my arm has healed enought to get back to my projects!

Thanks Bee...

... I hope your arm heals quickly. I am enjoying making more than usual this year. And, I’m sure you are right. The recipients seem to appreciate the effort you go to!

Thank you Nonna! It’ll be interesting to see more of your beautiful gifts, hopefully you’ll keep posting pics, eh? (I am very partial to the things you make with the beehive motif, obviously!)

Heh..

... I just knew you would love my beehive bags ;) I promise I’ll keep posting!

Oh yes, I do! Anything bee-like, but hives in particular, esp. the old fashioned ones, what we call “skeps”. I have attached a photo of a lovely little thing my ex’s mother made for me a few Xmases ago. It’s a style of quilting and embroidery referred to as “penny rugs”. Not sure why, re the name. They are made using real wool felt, and they employ hand sewing techniques, some quilting and applique. There is a shop down the coast that specializes in needlecraft and they sell wool felt, as well as kits etc. They dye it and overdye it themselves and I don’t have to tell you it is GORGEOUS. I love the fabric room there…..I want to learn how to do penny rugs eventually. You could probably whip one of these up in a heartbeat, you!

Aha! I just found out why they are called Penny Rugs!
