Well, I finished “The Golden Compass” and “The Subtle Knife,” and begun “The Amber Spyglass.” Think I’ll count all three books separately so I can feel caught up, more or less.

Worth doing/

This is a great goal. Some 10 years ago I made a list of 20th Century books I wanted to read. The original list of 100 has now grown to 352! The good news is that I’ve finished 229 to date. So many life lessons to be gained from reading good authors.

So out of the 229 you’ve read, which are your top three recommendations?

I loved “All the pretty horses” by Cormac McCarthy, The Caine Mutiny by Herman Wouk and Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie.

Both the first two have unequalled characterization in the writing.

I hasten to add that this is a very personal choice and may not be to everyone’s liking. The Rushdie book is brilliant but needs endurance!
