Plan ahead for my daughter's wedding day (read all 20 entries…)
"The" gown 11 months ago

A few weeks ago I went with my girl, two nieces and M’s mother to shop for wedding/bridesmaid gowns/dresses. Well, she found “the” gown. She walked out of the dressing room and I momentarily had to catch my breath. This child of mine had an expression of serenity, delight and joy on her face. I was speechless at the beauty of a young woman anticipating her wedding day and future life.

Even now as I write this, I find myself getting chills down my back and little goosebumps along my arms.

I cried

when Eldest Daughter came out in “the” gown. I don’t think it was her favorite, but she was told that you should choose the one that makes your Mom cry, so she chose it. It wouldn’t have mattered to me, but I did think she was stunning in it.

I sewed all the bridesmaids’ dresses – what an adventure that was! Did you find yours on this shopping excursion?

This gown is gorgeous, Stephanie. You must be such a proud Mom!

I haven’t heard that before. She picked it out and knew immediately. I didn’t cry, but was just in awe. Did you cry on the wedding day too? I don’t know how I’m going to handle that!

I have an idea for my dress… and have been looking a little bit, but am desperately trying to loose a few inches before I buy one! Ack!

I did cry on the wedding day. The thing I remember most about that day (besides the insane busyness)is that suddenly I actually approved of the wedding and her choice of husband – the day before I had told a co-worker I wished she would call it off. Now I truly love my son-in-law every bit as much as if I’d given birth to him myself.

Good luck with your dress! I was so lucky to find the perfect one, and hope you will be, too.

My baby just got engaged 2 weeks ago. Last of the 3. There are going to be quite a few tears (happiness, of course!) I think in the next 12 months…

Oh, “happy tears” are one of the best things in life. Three daughters? (Any sons?) And now this third daughter is getting married! Wonderful and good for you all. Your schedule is going to more robust than usual methinks! :-)

that is an absolutely beautiful dress

It reminds me of the one I wore lo these 12 long years ago: cream with sweeping embroidered flowers across the bodice and skirt. Little sleeves, though.
And how bad is it that I’m in my mother’s house and I can’t find a picture of it anywhere to scan in for you?
Anyway, she’s beautiful. What a wonderful day you’re all going to have!

And thank you Amy. Jen didn’t want white. This is called Champagne and with her ivory white skin and dark hair, it’s really complimentary.

It seems sleeves are not in fashion anymore! Every single dress the assistant brought out was strapless. Trends are weird.

Your dress sounds so feminine, elegant. I hope you find a pic of it to show! :-)
