time to lose some inches. 16 months ago

Ok, so all the recent research about obesity points to the waist to height ratio as the best predictor of obesity related heart disease and type 2 diabetes. So it’s time to take the test.

Our circumference at the belly button should be 1/2 our height or less.

I’m 5’ 6 1/2”. That’s 66.5 inches. So I need a waist of 33.25 inches or less.

Current score: 36 inches. Ouch. I’ve got some weight to lose. WHtR = 0.5414

Repeatable measurement?

Sounds like a good idea. My weight has been the same since college, but the contents have shifted in flight.

I assume the measurement is done first thing in the morning (empty stomach).

Is it cheating to suck in?

What about standing tall?

I could probably get a repeatable measurement only if I was allowed to optimize in every way and then see if that measurement could be improved with diet and exercise.

uncertainty in measurement

Since I did the measurement just before lunch using a 1 foot ruler and the chord from my headset, the error bars are pretty significant.

I agree with you that getting a repeatable measurement requires some shifting of weight, so to speak. At first I was going to try a series of measurements (relaxed, standing tall, sucking in, etc.) and average them, but the whole process was too tedious.

I think I’ll start by finding a tape measure…
