Reach 30 days of abstinence (read all 7 entries…)
Abstinence 11 months ago

I am a compulsive overeater who doesn’t always work very hard on her abstinence! I manage a few days here and there and then eat too much and then start over again and I know I need to treat myself better and really take this seriously. I have abused my poor body for more years than I care to remember but this time I want to make a difference. So much else in my life is going well and this feels like such an important part of the jigsaw puzzle which is missing. So I dedicate myself to my abstinence and hope to reach 30 days. This is day 20.

Good luck to you too...

Yes, I do believe that most addictions have the same underlying reasons and that they come from an inability to deal with the stresses and pains of life. Maybe we have been raised in such a way that we were never given the tools to deal with life properly – I know that was the case with me.
I wish you all the luck in the world with your own abstinence. Keep in touch if you would like to. My e-mail address is anne.beattie@yahoo.co.uk

Thank you!!

I really do appreciate that and it means so much to have support from people all over. I can proudly say that it is now 21 days! Yay! Thank you again and very best wishes to you,
Anne :)

Do you have a distraction yet?

When fighting an addiction it helps to keep busy with something new and fun….like a unusual hobby, knitting or stamp collecting or something….10 days to go!

Yes, I do...

..I have been doing alot of writing this summer and being creative really takes me out of myself and helps me with the abstinence. Thank you very much for your comment and I hope all is going well for you :)

wow, excellent progress!

My step mother always had our family on one diet or another while I was growing up. Some days in high school after having a poached egg and 1/2 a grapefruit for breakfast I’d feel weak and have horrible headaches! That’s when I started being sneaky about food and eating like there was no tomorrow when I got a hold of something I liked. I can’t remember the moment this all dawned on me – that I’m an adult now, I can eat whatever I like anytime I like, I have control over what I get to have, nobody else does anymore! And here I was for the longest time, behaving as if my step mother was lurking somewhere ready to snatch that pumpkin scone from me and scold me for eating badly!! I admire your courage – you are always taking on such tough goals and then achieving them! Brava!!

Thank you for all your comments and for the super cheer too! I think it is my first!! I am pleased that you have overcome your issues with food – good for you! It’s not easy at all, is it? Much love and luck to you in all that you do, Love Anne :)
