learn Slovak (read all 2 entries…)
Bought a book! 16 months ago

Ordered a Slovak book, supposedly it’s not great, but the best one from the rest. And it’s full of colors and pictures, which is great !!!! I’m a visual learning I think, so this will help me a lot. It’s for total beginners, like what I am, so I think it’s a good purchase and will help me learn. :)

Of course it doesn’t help with the pronunciation, but there’s time and the online Slovak TV for that. :P

Comments:

just out of curiousity, why are you trying to learn Slovak? I’m an American and I just recently married a Slovak woman and I’m living in Bratislava. I really need to learn. It’s good to see other people out there that want to learn because we can help each other.

Hi :)

It’s similar for me, I have a Slovak boyfriend, and also I like learning new languages. Not to mention that Slovak sounds very nice!

Good luck with your learning!

I’m curious, what book did you buy? I started using colloquial slovak which is ok I think. There is a lot of vocabulary and grammar there, but I’m not sure it puts it in there so that it’s easy to understand. I’m also missing the cd which I think would be helpful.

I also installed the slovak keyboard, but I don’t normally use it. I only use it when I need one of the special slovak letters. I’m not too worries about typing in slovak correctly. I just want to speak!!!

The book I bought is :

SLOVAK FOR YOUSLOVENčINA PRE VáS
(Slovak for Speakers of English for Beginners and Intermediate Students)

Ada Böhmerová

PERFEKT

So far I only did one lesson, but it looks pretty good. It has images, meanings of words, grammar, exercises, etc.

For pronunciation you can register at a free online Slovak course, http://www.e-slovak.sk

It’s really nice! But they are having a transition period at the moment, so not everything works.

Hope these help.
