teach Stumpy to not pull on his leash during walks, else I will lose a shoulder (read all 3 entries…)
This is Stumpy 11 months ago

He is the sweetest dog, but he pulls like a freight train on his leash. He is all muscle and can pull so hard from a dead stop that it will yank me off my feet. So here is what I began doing with him today: When there is any tension on the leash, just stop. Don’t take any steps. He seemed to be starting to understand what I wanted. But our walk which normally takes 20-30 minutes took an hour today.

Stumpy is adorable!

I did a double take at his name. My dog’s name is Sadie, but we call her Stumpy quite a lot because, well, one of her legs is just a stump. If she were a person, it would be cruel to call her Stumpy, but as she’s a dog, she really doesn’t mind as long as we’re petting her and giving her nice things to eat.

there is a story behind his name. when my son was a toddler, this little dog with short stumpy legs showed up at my parents’ house. Because the dog was my son’s size, he fell in love and called the dog, “stumpy, my good friend”. well, around the time that we acquired the current stumpy, my parents adopted two great dane puppies who dwarfed their unusually large boxer. we started calling the boxer stumpy and it reminded us for the stumpy from a long time ago. with that rolling around in my mouth at the time of current stumpy’s adoption, i just kept calling our new dog stumpy (plus he has a botched tail docking, so he has this weird stump of a tail). my son would correct me and call his casper (but that reminded me too much of my mother’s toy poodle, which wasn’t very flattering in my mind). But finally, my son relented and slowly began calling him ‘stumpy’ too. now, he is ‘stump wump gump’ and stumpy for short.

weallareone is in challenging times! but confident she'll meet the challenge!

I have a dog like thsi

you can get something called a halti which is like a headcollar that yuo use on a horse, I use it on Sasha and it has saved me a lot of pain in my arms and shoulders! :)
