This is such an amazing experience. They become a part of your family, and you won’t want to let them go. I was a host sister to a girl from Thailand (Kim) through AFS. I learned so much about both her country and my own country, and the experience helped us both grow. It’s not all a bowl of cherries, but the bad times help you appreciate the good ones. I recommend AFS because they have a pretty strong support network. Even if you don’t host, at least volunteer to spend time with the kids. Just get out there and do it!

Hello
My name is Kristen Grow and I found your post on 43 Things. Face The World Foundation (FTW) is a nonprofit educational and cultural exchange organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since 1980, FTW has promoted global learning and exchange by offering opportunities for international high school students to experience life in the U.S. The goal of cultural exchange program is to provide students, host families, schools, and communities with a quality experience that will not only enhance personal growth, but also will establish lasting friendships. Face The World Foundation is designated by the U. S. Department of State to sponsor students on a J-1 visa. We are also endorsed by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET).
We have several students that are looking for homes immediately. Are you already hosting a student?
